Does Your Victoria Home Have A Mold Problem?

6/28/2021 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all molds from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all molds, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  •  Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  •  Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

If you see any signs of mold, call SERVPRO of Victoria today!

Benefits of Getting your Air Ducts Cleaned

6/22/2021 (Permalink)

Is it worth having your air ducts clean?  Getting the ventilation systems inspected should be a high priority on your to-do list. In most cases, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system has been operating for some time without attention.  Dirty ducts can circulate odors, contaminants such as mold, and irritating dust throughout your business or home.

   Clean air ducts benefits:

  • Eliminates offensive odors
  • Reduces potential mold growth
  • Remediates bacteria, fungi, and mold
  • Restore peak energy efficiency
  • Lowers indoor air pollution

A routine part of the SERVPRO of Victoria service is inspecting the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit (HVAC).  Keeping the HVAC system and ductwork clean can potentially extend the life span of the equipment by allowing it to operate at peak condition, which may save you money.

“Professional from start to finish. The minute I called in, they followed through with the General Manager Greg G calling and assessing the situation. He laid out the program that we would then follow. (Very thorough) The two gentlemen Michael R and Jeremiah S then called and showed up with their A game. These guys were personable, professional, and particular about their work. Every day after the initial “clean up”, they would call, AND SHOW UP ON TIME!!!! Potential Roof Leak in your Victoria Home?

5/7/2020 (Permalink)

They say April showers bring May flowers, but this April weather has been nothing less but perfect.  The weather has been warmer and the trees and flowers have begun to bloom, However, springtime always seems to bring plenty of rain and plenty of rain always brings a higher risk of water damage to your home.

With the increase of showers as well as high winds, roof damage may occur or be revealed as water intrudes through your roof and damages your ceilings and walls. To reduce the risk of roof leaks, you should inspect your roof for any damages from the winter and inspect it after every major storm.

The most common cause of roof leaks is a damaged or missing shingle from storms or fallen branches. If you do experience water damage inside your home from the ceiling or wall, contact a professional.  Give SERVPRO of Victoria a call to help your storm damage needs (361) 573-6000!

Understanding the Dangers of Floods

6/18/2019 (Permalink)

As we move into the heart of hurricane season, we all need to be mindful that August and September are the busiest months for both Tropical Storms and Hurricanes. Even with a slow start to the season, Mother Nature can change her mind very abruptly!  How are you prepared for a hurricane?  What about what comes after a hurricane?  It is common to see a storm with heavy downpours of rain causing flooding in the most protected neighborhoods.  Do you know what to do during a flood?  SERVPRO of Victoria has a few tips for you to follow in case an event was to happen:

  • Be prepared, create an evacuation plan
  • Learn and identify different evacuation routes to be able to evacuate quickly
  • If public transportation is relied on, contact the local emergency management for evacuation information
  • Turn Around, Don't Drown! ® Moving water above two feet can knock you down; one foot of water can move vehicles away
  • Move to higher ground if there is a chance of flash flooding
  • Driving during high rainfalls can be extremely dangerous.  Stay updated by checking service announcements through the National Weather Service.

Spring Cleaning

4/10/2019 (Permalink)

Spring has arrived and what better time of the year to clean the clutter out than now? It's a tradition for most people to take this time of year and do an annual spring cleaning. Green means clean to our SERVPRO crew. So begin fresh this season. Clear out old items that may be taking up too much space in your home by selling or even donating these (un)used items. Below are some resources to help you start your spring cleaning to get you back on track to the lifestyle you want.

  • Make your own checklist:

Create a plan of action. Take an area and break it down into sections. Create different tasks that need to be done around the house or office. Once the list has been made considering the time each task may take. By doing so, this may help organize the time it takes, which you can adjust your schedule accordingly throughout the rooms. [Using this checklist, you can divide the tasks by estimated times and create a flexible schedule giving yourself some spare time]

  • Organize and pace yourself:

A really good deep spring cleaning should take more than a day. Set aside a weekend to steadily get the major chores done. An average amount of time to clean an area can take about 2-6 hours. As you start your spring cleaning, organize your time and tackle the big chores first. Declutter the room by sorting out and organize items into different piles. Once these tasks have been attacked then clean the surfaces with the tough grime and wiping down counter tops and polishing it. Don't overlook the items in plain sight such as kitchen appliances. Also, address the little small hidden crevasses. Don't rush - This will not happen in one afternoon, organize your time and pace yourself as you work on these chores.

  • Work from the top down:

Like cleaning a car, you start from the top and work your way down. When you begin dusting a room, it would only make sense to start at the top and work your way down. By starting from the top, you will be able to save more time and energy instead of having to repeat the task at hand.

Helpful hint: there is always an exception to the rules and cleaning walls can be considered one of those exceptions. When cleaning the walls it may be better to start from the bottom up, then back down again. Dirty soap streaks may be left behind and harder to clear off clean walls rather than dirty walls. Work your way back up to remove any drips.

  • Dry clean before adding water to the mix:

Start with dusting before mopping. By adding water, the debris can be created into a big mess of muddy gunk. Helpful hints: sweep before mopping. Dust fan blades before washing them (with water) and vacuums or wipe windows before washing them as well.

  • Keep up rather than catch up:

We as humans are always busy whether it's taking care of our family, working or getting distracted with whatever life throws at you. So it's natural to put off these chores. To make your future spring cleaning easier on you, create a monthly checklist of a task to do. Break it up by room or sections followed by a flexible schedule to get these chores accomplished.

Mold Removal vs. Remediation

11/7/2018 (Permalink)

Many people do not know that there is a difference between “mold removal” and remediation. Mold spores exist naturally everywhere, both indoors and outdoors, as they are microscopic. This means that removing 100% of mold from a home or business is impossible. Many restoration companies will advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee they can completely remove all mold. This is simply not true.

Qualified restoration companies understand the science behind mold growth and the makeup of mold. All SERVPRO franchises provide thorough training on how to properly remediate mold. The remediation of mold focuses on getting the levels of mold back to natural and normal levels.

Since every mold damage scenario is different, each requires a different solution but our general mold remediation process stays consistent here at SERVPRO of Victoria.

  1. Inspection and Mold Damage Assessment
  2. Mold Containment
  3. Air Filtration
  4. Removing Mold and Mold-Infested Materials
  5. Cleaning Contents and Belongings
  6. Restoration
