Kitchen Fire Safety

When kitchen fire comes to mind, it’s common to think that it was caused by a cooking accident. But not all kitchen fires are caused by cooking-related forms. Other related kitchen fires may be caused by appliances, such as toasters, refrigerators, dishwashers. Following some of the tips below, can help prevent any future kitchen fires in your home:
- Plug all kitchen appliances, such as air fryers, toasters, microwaves, etc. into a wall outlet.
- Unplug small appliances when they are not being used.
- Be aware of the appliance cords. If the cords are pinched they can be damaged.
- Keep the stove and oven clean. Food build up or grease can potentially ignite when the stove or oven is turned on for cooking.
- Check and clean stove hoods and filters regularly. If your stove hood vents externally, make sure insects or birds do not build nests or otherwise impede airflow through it.
- Never use a gas or propane oven to heat your home. This is a fire hazard and it can also give off toxic gases.
