Overflowing Toilets?

Powder room. Toilet overflow with clean water surrounding the toilet on the ground. Call the professionals if you have a toilet overflow!

Toilets are a common household item.  Occasionally from time to time, the toilet may have a malfunction.  A common malfunction outcome maybe a toilet overflow.  But if the overflowed toilet involves sewage back up the problem becomes more of a serious issue.  If you can’t tell whether the toilet overflow contains sewage, contact a professional immediately.

However, any toilet overflow can be frustrating to handle.  If it’s an easy quick fix, use the following tips to help the situation.

  1. Stop the flushing – don’t flush the toilet just because there is something in there that you don’t want to see.  This could potentially make matters worse by adding more water to clean up later.
  2. Turn off the water – water shut – off valve is located behind the toilet near the floor.  This will cut off the water line which will help prevent more water from overflowing.
  3. Clean up spilled water – If the water spill is small it’s an easy clean up by moping the floor up.  But if there are multiple gallons on the ground, call your local professional to help you dry the affected area.
  4. Figure out the problem – if the problem is more than just a clog, consider contacting a plumber.  By contacting doing so this can help determine what the problem is and further disaster situations can be avoided.

Understanding the situation and how to react is the key to every homeowner.  Turning off the water, finding the source of the problem is helpful to these situations.  If your home has been affected with an overflowing toilet and need a professional team to come out, give our team at SERVPRO of Victoria a call.  Our team is dedicated to help you during frustrating situations like these and we are always here to help!
